Why you shouldn’t eat sugar
By Depla Mei Palmer
Do you eat sugar? If you do, can you feel how it changes the way you act? Sugar is a food that plants make and store inside themselves. It tastes really sweet and we use it to make our foods taste better. All over the world, plants which are good at making and storing sugar are cultivated and sugar production is a big business.
Unfortunately, over the last 100 years or so, more and more sugar has been put into our food and drinks and now we get too much of it. Everyone needs sugar in their blood, but our bodies can make the sugar we need. I want to show you why I believe you shouldn’t eat lots of sugar.
Firstly, too much sugar is poisonous and can hurt your body if you eat too much of it. The sneaky, evil thing about sugar is that it is like a bad drug. The more you have of it, the more you want. One week you might be happy eating one donut, but soon you’ll decide you really need two. The next thing you know you are eating several donuts a day and soon you will be pretty sick.Sugar can cause lots of diseases such as diabetes and cancer. Some people are lucky, and can survive the killer diseases, but some people aren’t lucky, and won't survive. You don’t want to become one of them do you? I don’t. I want to be a survivor!!!

Secondly, sugar isn’t only bad for you, but it can also lead to polluting the environment. Many sugary foods are put into small packets that are mostly made from plastics and other materials that don’t break down in the soil. That means almost every party, every carnival and every morning when people pack children their lunch, they end up opening up packets of sugary snacks. And what do they do with the empty packets? Sometimes they throw them on the ground. Sometimes they throw them in the bin, where it gets taken away and tipped out. All the packets go blowing around over the Earth? Yuck. I’m glad I’m not the Earth.

Finally, sugar makes you fat. Now I know you would all like to eat a donut, but would you like to look like one? Look at how many grams of sugar are in what you’re eating. Now divide that number by 4. That’s how many teaspoons of sugar you’re eating. Kinda scary, huh? Since most people are eating over three times the amount of sugar than what their body can process, sugar turns into body fat and the next thing you know you're the size of an elephant. I know I’m not going to be one of those people!

Now you have heard this I’m sure you will agree with my opinion. Don’t eat too much sugar. It will give you a bad disease, it will make you fat, and the packaging from your sugary treats will blow all over the planet like evil confetti because you are so humungous you can’t even walk to the rubbish bin. Please make the world a better place, and if you’re looking for some nice snacks, why don’t you try eating some healthy ones? Eat something that will make you feel good about eating it! Eat healthy food and stay strong!!
